The purpose and practice of my life is to deepen my compassion, a practice that will keep me busy until I draw my last breath.

I am mother to eight stray/rescues/orphaned animals - dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes. Love those little (and big) buggers to death.

I am currently a full-time graduate student in Clinical Psychology, I spend a lot of time reading, playing my flute, hanging out with my boyfriend (who lives here with me and all of the pets), and enjoying living in the haven that is Topanga, California.

I am a Buddhist who was christened Catholic, raised Methodist, and baptized as an adult in a traditional African-American Baptist church. I like to think of myself as a believer in the compassion of Jesus, currently in recovery from childhood indoctrination and dogma. I also have a strong interest in Native American spiritual practice and ritual, and have participated in sweat lodge and vision quest ceremonies.

While I am not called to motherhood in the traditional sense, I have a lot of respect for my mother - ancestors and their struggles in this life. Part of my challenge for this lifetime is to learn to love like a mother does, which is connected to my desire to deepen my compassion for myself and others.

My life and circumstances always seem to bring me to lessons of non-duality. I am half black and half white, and count both slaves and a slave owner as ancestors. I revere both the Buddha and Jesus as spiritual teachers, have dated both women and men, and am blessed to have been able to release the need to define myself as either “this” or “that”.
